This cozy 1 bedroom 1 bath cottage was built in 1870 by William Butler Garrett then down to his great grandson, Dr. William E. Mitchel. The property was restored as originally built, log by log, by Garrett's great-great granddaughter & family. Logs were marked & moved & restored for the front room, exactly as it stood in 1870, adding the modern amenities.
Open floor plan front room features the living room with fireplace (available beginning Sept 15) & full furnished kitchen. Decorated in farmhouse fashion with the modern amenities for todays guests. Large bedroom has a queen bed. Full bath with tub/shower combination.
Nice large yard with firepit & picnic area overlooking a gorgeous farm setting surrounded by the mountains. The covered porch is the perfect place to take in the beauty of the area.

My spouse and I got much needed rest. We met the owner who was not only gracious but shared a narrative that was in common with my journey which was a bonus to say the least.
This house was not where we originally planned on staying, but with a mix up, by me, on reservations, Dena suggested this one and man was it a great choice. It was so classic and relaxing. So much thought went into this place to make it comfortable and private. It was close enough to town to be convenient and man did we enjoy our stay!! This place begs for us to return. I have NO NEGATIVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS PLACE!! We will be returning.
everything was as I expected
location, very high standard of accommodation, very peaceful place a lots of privacy
this was what I was dreaming of
I really enjoyed my stay at the Mitchell Cabin. The location is fantastic for exploring Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountains. The cabin was easy to find and is across the road from the owners goat farm. There is a grocery store about 10 minutes away. I came to hike and found several amazing trails of various difficulty, all within a 30 minute drive.
The cabin is very clean, has wifi and modern appliances, is historical and decorated nicely. You can tell how much love went into the renovation of this family cabin. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had plenty of pressure and hot water. Although there was a nice fire pit out back, I didn't get to use it because of rain. My only complaint is that the wood burning fireplace has been replaced with a gas fireplace. Although there were no instructions on how to start it, I called Yellow Rose and the owners came over and showed me immediately. I enjoyed getting to meet them and get some more history on the cabin. Great customer service. The big downside is that the new gas fireplace heats up the house so much in such a short amount of time, that you almost can't even use it. I would have preferred the original wood burning fireplace, but understand why the owners would want to change it. Overall this was a fantastic stay and I highly recommend staying here!
I rented this cabin for family members and they loved it. They appreciated the construction and the way it is decorated and furnished.
My wife and I were doing a last minute search for a mountain location (TN or NC), quiet area, convenient to restaurants and attractions, yet rural setting. This place checked all of those boxes. It exceeded all expectations. Perfect size for a couple, but with the available flexibility to add 2-3 others with the loft accommodations. We loved it and would like to return again!
Everything about the experience was amazing.
The Mitchell Cabin was amazing great location so peaceful the owners live across the road and have a wonderful goat farm they came and said hello and we chatted for a while such great folks to bring this old cabin to all its glory and taking such good care of it. 10 out of 10 in my book would highly recommend and would stay again.
It feels so far away but so close to everything. The decor is adorable and very very clean. The only complaint I have was the bed is very hard. We could not figure out how to turn the volume down on the tv. Appeared a controller was missing. We will stay again.
enjoyed the cabin, its location, cleanliness and NC in general.
