One of the best fall festivals in the Western North Carolina area can be found this weekend on the campus of Western Carolina University! On September 26th hundreds of crafters, artists, musicians, food vendors and more will be gathering in Cullowhee, NC to host thousands of visitors at one of the mountains biggest festivals! Mountain Heritage Day is one of our favorite events to attend because there s always great music being played and several different stages and a vast array of food to try, but most of all there are so many neat crafts to check out from all across the region. These crafts make great Christmas gifts, and they are one of a kind so we doubt anyone that receives a gift from Mountain Heritage day would be disappointed.
The 41st annual Mountain Heritage Day is a combination old-fashioned mountain fair and showcase for Southern Appalachian music, arts, dance and song, with the atmosphere of a big family reunion. Visitors to will find three stages of traditional old-time, gospel, and bluegrass music and dance, with plenty of clogging and fiddle and banjo music. Festival-goers are invited to join in workshops at the Circle Tent and participate in shape-note singing, one of the mountains’ most sacred traditions. Admission and parking are free so bring your family and experience all that our rich heritage has to offer.
